Historic Homesteads and Buildings

TradeCoast Central Heritage Park, Brisbane Qld

Located at the site of the old Brisbane Airport in the suburb of Eagle Farm, this centre and surrounds provides a fascinating glimpse into Brisbane’s convict past.  This heritage listed site was the location of the Women’s Prison and Factory, where in 1836 there were 40 women imprisoned here.  By 1839 the remaining prisoners were sent to Sydney when the penal settlement here was disbanded.

Today, there are outdoor displays, an interpretive centre, as well as remains of WWII items in the area.  Follow the heritage trail to see the Allison Engine Testing Stands and Hangar No 7 (where a Japanese Zero aircraft was reassembled in 1943 to analyse why the Japanese aircraft were superior in the air).

If you are a history buff like us, we reckon you will enjoy a visit here…and even better, it’s FREE!  Check out the website https://tradecoastcentralheritagepark.com.au/
