The 14 kilometres from the turn off on the Adventure Way were tough going, but once we arrived at the iconic Dig Tree site we agreed it was well worth it. We spent two nights camped right beside Cooper Creek and it was stunning! The Dig Tree Reserve site is located in remote south-western Queensland in the heart of Channel Country. There was lots of water and plenty of birdlife making the most of this plentiful bounty. Ah the serenity!
The Reserve is situated on Nappa Merrie Station in the Bulloo Shire. The nearest towns are Innamincka in South Australia (116km west) and Thargomindah in Queensland (326km east).
Cooper Creek is 1,300 metres in length and flows into Lake Eyre. The only river in Australia longer than this is the Murray-Darling.
