Historic Homesteads and Buildings

Bell Biblical Garden & Catholic Church, Qld

We loved our visit to Bell Biblical Garden and Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in the little town of Bell, Queensland. Both the Garden and the Church are popular tourist attractions. The bright yellow Catholic Church features a stunning and colourful original series of paintings that were completed for the 95th anniversary of the church. They portray the history of salvation as told in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. The artist, Meg Cullen a local Bell resident, combined her passions of both faith and creativity to produce this outstanding body of work.

The Bell Biblical Garden, which is beside the church, was officially opened on 27 May 2012 during celebrations to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the building of the Church. The Way of the Cross, or more commonly ‘Stations of the Cross’ is a feature of the garden with each of the fourteen Stations being represented by sculpture or mosaic pictures. The garden contains many plants and trees that are mentioned in the Bible. Many locals lent a hand with the garden project along the way.
